audio technica lp120 setup This is a topic that many people are looking for. newyorkcityvoices.org is a channel providing useful information about learning, life, digital marketing and online courses …. it will help you have an overview and solid multi-faceted knowledge . Today, newyorkcityvoices.org would like to introduce to you Audio Technica LP120 Turntable Setup (How To). Following along are instructions in the video below:
“Jumping right into this we re going to attach the head shell to the tonearm tonearm right here on the head. Shell. You can see there s a little rod sticks out at the top and then there is a groove here that that indexes into. I simply slide it back in and then turn this guy and as you turn it it s going to pull the head shell in and seat it don t need to over tighten just enough to keep her in place alright.
So next up we are going to be attaching the counterweight to the tonearm. I do in order to do this is take the black dial first and slide. It forward until it won t go any further then just begin to screw it slowly on we re ready now to put on the platter and the slip mat. However i want to dish make note of the voltage selector right here it comes shipped to 115 by default because most homes in the us run on 115 volt.
However there s a chance you might be running on 230. So. If you are make sure you switch that now the platter doesn t have any sort of retention or indexing..
.
It just slides right over the spindle. I can t tell if there s a magnet orden or not but it feels really snug and i think it might actually just be a friction fit and of course. The slip mat. Doesn t need anything to hold it in place because it s supposed to slip.
Now we can go ahead and put on the dust cover first you re going to have to take your hinges and slide them into these key channels on the back just slip right down in no real holding force. There after that you ll just take your dust cover in his writing. This lots on the back. And the weight should allow it to close forward on its own haha.
Now to take a look at what i thought was the hardest part of the entire setup. Which is balancing the tonearm. The first thing i do is move the weight clear to the back so that you can see it sort of springs..
.
But keeps itself way up in there after that you know that it s not going to dive into the platter or the slip mat. So you can remove the protective shell from the cartridge you want to remove this because it doesn t pack the way even if it is just by a tiny bit so what you re going to do is you re going to start twisting. The counterweight at the back of the tonearm forward until the tonearm starts to come down further and further. But so that it doesn t dive into the slip mat.
And you can see that i know that this could be an issue and because of that i m constantly holding onto the head shell and making sure that it doesn t get away from me. Now obviously you have to let go to test. And see if it is in fact balanced or not and i definitely recommend getting down level with the surface and looking at to see if it is sitting parallel to be platter. Now the reason.
This is important is because if the totem are sitting to front heavy. And it s going to be putting unnecessary pressure on your records. And in turn..
.
It s going to cause unnecessary wear this could also cause the stylus to bend or even break whereas on the flip side if there is not enough weight on the front. It s going to be sitting too high and could end up skating across the record far. Easier the scratching your record or damaging. The stylus yet again so let s take a look at this actually parallel with the system and see if it s set up right you can see it s balancing perfectly without me even touching it and it s sitting almost level with the platter.
So let s go ahead and lock it back and do the fine tuningn t we do this with the dial on the front of the counterweight start out by setting it to zero. And this set your stylus pressure to nothing now for the cartridge that comes with the lp. 120 ask you to turn the entire counterweight. From 0 to.
20 and this will give you a 20. Stylus. Pressure next up you can take and turn the little set screw to tighten it down and make sure that it doesn t move on its own during transit or just storage or..
.
Whatever and then we can set our anti skate to 20. Yet again this is cartridge specific so only do it if you use the default cartridge. And you re good to go. So this took me so long to get out.
I actually had all this footage recorded the same day that i unboxed my record player it just repeating forever to edit and render it and upload it because i m a piece of if you found this helpful then like would be very much appreciated. And if you have any questions and by all means drop them down below. And i ll try my best to walk you through whatever. It is you may need help with and thank you so much for watching.
