Today, newyorkcityvoices.org would like to introduce to you BLUE SNOWBALL vs BLUE YETI Can you tell the difference?. Following along are instructions in the video below:
“Like any other small youtuber there comes a time to spend the money you do don t have to get the equipment you probably don t need and that s i ve done today. I m upgrading from the 50 us dollar blue snowball mic to the 130 us dollar blue yeti mic. Even though i got it for 75. And it came with a copy of ghost recon wildlands.
They should pay you 60 to play that game. I still have a question will anybody be able to tell the difference probably not welcome back guys to a unique episode of pixel dwellers today. We re going to be doing something a little bit different than i had found on youtube or the internet. While i was reviewing this money now a little bit of backstory this mic was not my first choice to upgrade from the snowball.
It was actually the audio technica. I had heard all the youtubers using that and i thought it sounded a little bit more clear a little bit more crisp and i really like that that s sad that mike gave you. But that s i m during 50 us dollars plus. The boom mic or the boom arm and everything else you re gonna need for that it was just too hot for me right now and then i sold this on best buy for 76 us dollars.
And it came with ghost recon not the best game. But really when this mic goes for 130 us dollars by itself that s a great deal so i had to pulled the trigger. I got it and hopefully. I m not disappointed with the quality so after i decided to purchase the yeti.
I went online. I checked out some reviews. And there have been reviews made of these two microphones for years and years there s so many reviews on youtube..
.
I am by no means the first and there will be no means about the last that doesn t even make sense. I will be no means the last video overview of this of these two microphones. I didn t notice one thing. I was similar in all the videos.
They told you the name of the microphone. While they were playing the audio sample. So i thought maybe that had some influence in the way. I was perceiving the audio.
I did a crazy sign there i don t know why i did that so i m gonna do something a little bit different. I m gonna play the audio samples without the names of the mic. I m using for that audio sample. Maybe i ll switch them up you won t be a lot like a like an old a bunch of cups in the marble marble and ping pong organ trail or whatever organ strap bike in it so we re gonna trail that s an organ trail right some third sounds very good you know so yeah.
I m gonna do something a little bit different. I m gonna play the audio samples without the name of the microphone. I m using board that all to your sample. So you can close your eyes.
And you listen a few years and see if you can tell the difference. The only thing i ll do is i ll pick a one microphone. I m not saying..
.
It s gonna be the snowball or the yeti first i ll switch them so you don t know. And i ll do the first round with either microphone without any post processing and then i ll do it again in the same order with the post processing. I use on my videos. Which again i m not an audiophile.
I just do a basic kind of like cleanup. And it sounds a little bit better i boost the base a little bit even though i don t need to boost the booster. The more than this i m freaking sasquatch over here. But let s get into it ice.
What am. I doing alright guys here we are at the first test this microphone does not have a pop filter on it neither of them do and they are both set to the cardioid pattern. I also have my desktop running a few feet away. So you might hear some background noises.
But that is another test to see how well each mic cuts out the background noise. So what i m gonna do is just read the basic intro that i do for most of my videos welcome back everyone to another episode of pixel dwellers and that s it moving on to the next alright here. We are with the second mic. Again.
There is no pop filter and my desktop is running a few feet away. And there is no post production being done to this clip. Welcome back everyone to another episode of pixel dwellers..
.
And now we are back for the second test on the first mic again. There s no pop filter and the desktop is running a few feet away. And this is also again in the cardio and pattern. This time.
I m going to do a little bit of post production just a normal stuff. I do for my videos welcome back everyone to another episode of pixel dwellers. We re back with the second mike and now i m going to do a little bit of post processing on this one the same amount. I do for any video.
I would put on youtube welcome back everyone to another episode of pixel dwellers alright guys so that s it for the test. If you guys guess that the first audio sample was in fact. The blue yeti. Then you d be correct that was without any post processing and then i did the snowball second without any post processing.
And then the same order with post processing. So i think the slight edge goes to the yeti is it worth the extra money for anybody who s aspiring to be a youtube creator that s up to you guys. I was very happy for the first year year and a half with the snowball it got the job done. But this is the next step up and then there will be a third step.
Whenever we get there somewhere down the line. There are a lot of other factors that make this mic worth 130 dollars. That is the four modes these stereo..
.
The omni. The bi directional and the cardioid. I m gonna use cardioid for about 98 of everything i do for youtube and probably the most other people will too. It s got the volume and gain knobs that you can adjust.
And it also has a mute button and a headset jack that s pretty cool. Where you can listen to your voice live. So you can make sure everything is perfect which is pretty awesome. But not everybody s gonna use those things and i wanted to pure audio sound test to see which one was better in cardioid that s what you re gonna use for voiceovers and like i said.
That s what i m gonna use for 99. I ll move it up now 99 of the things i m gonna do on youtube. So for all my videos from here on out i think for me i m gonna continue to use the yeti because i think it sounds a little bit better and i spent the money. But guys let me know which mic you thought sounded the best in the comments below.
I ll leave a link to both of these in the description. As well just in case. I mean my youtuber friends need the buy one and can t search on amazon for some reason right there for you anyway guys don t forget to follow us on twitter and hit that like button and subscribe and all that good stuff. And i ll see you in the next video hopefully with a good ” .
