“You ve got short hair. I doubt you d even nconsider this a problem but but those of us with long hair every time you go for a swim. Soaking in chlorinated nwater is far from ideal so much so that it actually puts quite a lot of swimmers off it s bad enough getting out of the pool with red rings around your eyes. A hat line.

And that ndistinct odor of chlorine. But leaving in a wet bedraggled look is enough to actually make some people time their swims for days nthey need to wash their hair. Which can be pretty limiting so today. I m going to nbe doing a little bit of an experiment.

And i want to nstart it with a disclaimer because this is genuine and i haven t yet worked out how to keep my nhair dry when swimming. But i ve got several ideas nwhich. I m going to try out so hopefully by the end of nthis. We will have a solution to be able to go swimming nand keep our hair dry.

Upbeat music. Well. I guess. I should nprobably start with a bit of a control.

So once my hair is dry. I m just going to put my hat. None like i would normally tie it up in a bit of na bun chuck my hat on and go for a bit of a nswim and i ll show you what it looks like at the end of it getting up for the weekend. Don t let us down nwe ve waited so long okay.

I ve done a decent nswim. So it s time for the swimming cap reveal nfor the control run see what we re working with pretty wet cap. I m imagining my hair is ngoing to be soaked through let s have a look. Yeah.

I would say that is pretty wet. Let s have a wring out. Oh. Yeah.

We ve got a good starting. Point. At least reggae. Music.

Well like i said earlier today nis. A bit of an experiment and both from what i ve nbeen told from my little play on instagram and nthings. I ve found online. I have gone out and bought nthis selection of swim caps.

Obviously i already nhad these two gta caps. I ve got a really expensive joking here free shower cap from the hotel to try out this little nylon version cap here and then this one which is nsomething. Very new to me with the ear protector and nthe hope that that s going to seal right round the edge. But there are so many ndifferent options out there this one is great if you ve got really long hair.

Apparently. Which nmy hair s relatively long and there s quite a lot of it so hopefully. It should be able to fit everything else underneath. I m going to try of sometimes nthe caps on their own trying different hairstyles.

Underneath. And a combination of various options here jazz music alright. So my hair is entirely dry. So i probably need to nget back in the pool.

This time. I m going to nkeep it fairly simple but change things up slightly. So a lot of the suggestions were high bun which i normally don t do ni put my hair at the back maybe that s just nbecause. I think it s more arrow or there s less drag.

So i m going to put it nice and tight. But right on the top of my head. So just twisting it like i ndid before really tight to a keep it in place and b. Nto.

Reduce the surface area..

That s potentially exposed to the water. Nice little hair bobble nagain keeping it in place. I feel like a ballerina. Sure i don t look like one.

And now let me introduce nthis special cap so i bought this after my research. I ve never tried one of these before and as you can see there s a nlittle extra bit for the ear. Which means the hat should be able to seal nicely around my near because that s normally where the water goes in it s also a hat designed to nbe worn with a lot of hair and yes my hair s very long. But it isn t actually that thick so it you do have a huge amount of hair then hopefully you d be nable to fit it underneath a hat like this and it ncould help to keep it dry put it on and see what happens i feel very pointy not sure that i would be nvery aerodynamic like this sort of ballerina meets smurf is it a good look alright.

So i haven t ever nused one of these caps like i said before but nthe idea is it comes much further down my ears nand. It feels sort of secure. I can t hear very well so nif. I m shouting i apologize and hopefully.

It s ngoing to seal the water it does feel a little bit nloose around the bottom. And i must admit i m one of nthose people who actually wears my normal silicone hat fairly low because i don t like nwater going in my ears. Although it doesn t normally stop it hoping this one will so like i said. I haven t ever tried one nof these caps before and i found it on amazon nwhen searching for caps for long hair and ncaps to keep your hair.

Dry it s a brand called nzoma it cost me 1448. And the description nthis. One made me chuckle pop rock music yeah so another 400 meters time to get wet hopefully not my hair you didn t know i was watching i didn t mean to sneak around oh. I will choose my life.

I will choose my life alright. I m actually nnot sure what to expect my ears felt a bit wet. It s na bit flappy around here. But i can t tell if it s going nto be dry.

So let s reveal middle bit of the cap is dry ears are a bit wet you guys can see i can t nactually tell whether it s dry on top. But it feels it i m going to reveal. Oh yes not bad. I would say well it certainly felt really odd having the bun on my head and nevery time i tumble turned it felt like loads of resistance.

But i guess it s just ndifferent to what is my normal. But i think that s the last nplace to get wet on your head and if you put a bun. There and nthe great part of this cap is it s got more room for lots of hair. So it could be the way forwards.

I do feel i need a size smaller. My head is probably quite naverage sized. I think and it felt a little nloose around the ears. So maybe something like this for larger heads or people with lots of hair.

And if i could get a nsmaller version of this i reckon it could be the answer reggae music well whilst. I ve got ntime and i m sat here waiting for my hair to dry ni. Thought. I should probably use this moment to share nsome of the research that i ve actually found out.

And i spoke to my hair dresser. Just to know how to protect nmy hair. A little bit more from chlorine. And yes.

You can get some anti chlorine treatments nwhich you can put on before swimming to try and protect. It. And then also afterwards nand a few of you even suggested putting nconditioner on your hair as if it ll stop it drying out. But you need to be careful nwith these products because if it s anything nthat s going to be too slippery or slimy on your hair nthat when you put a cap on and you swim a few nlengths.

It s just going to gradually slide off and nthen your hair s going to get fully exposed that way talking of slippiness ntry to avoid putting on too much moisturizer on your skin. I ve made that mistake nbefore sliming moisturizer on my face and then nthroughout the session. You re just constantly ntrying to pull the cap back down onto your forehead. And another one which i don t know how much evidence there is with it.

But i m on the same npage here as sarah true so we spoke to sarah true last year. Just asked her some superstitions and one of hers is come race day. She doesn t like to have clean hair as you probably know clean nhair is just nice and shiny and smooth. But that doesn t nnecessarily bode well for keeping your hat on and with that thought if nyou don t swim everyday then try to maybe combine nyour swimming with when your hair needs a wash because a your cap s going to stay on better and b.

It s a good excuse to give it a really thorough wash..

Afterwards reggae music alright well as we nknow one cap on its own with my hair just stuffed up inside it does not work so i m going nto take it to the next level. I m going to put my hair a nlittle bit tighter in a bun behind my head and i m ngoing to be using this sort of spandex style cap underneath. Which you can find at npretty much any sports shop it is old school i have to admit this one cost me 350. And i ve opted for this over latex because i don t know if nyou ve ever tried a latex cap.

But try taking that off with long hair and it pulls your hair out so you need to think about you know protecting your hair. Actually nafter the pool as well so hopefully. This will be kind to my hair. And it will keep it slightly nfurther away from the water and i m going to simply ngoing to put this one this gtn cap over the top these are i.

Think 699 in our shop. But any silicone hat. So nit s a very different feel to latex that s just a little nbit kinder on your hair. And it s that bit thicker as well reggae music have a bit of patience here ndon t laugh at me too much i am new to this type of cap.

But i always put my cap on from the back just find. It s a little bit easier. I feel like i want to nhave some like petals on my cap. Or something nthat would be cool fits nicely sure it looks wonderfully nfetching right.

Now steam lined silicone cap next again i put it on from back to front some people do front to back nwhatever you find easiest. But play around you should be nable to do it in one motion. Put your hands inside like nso put just on the back pull over to the front. Okay excuse.

Me a moment. I m njust taking the pressure off my ears. Just whilst. I talk to you guys.

So i personally always put nmy goggles on over the top just like so. But you might find that if your cap comes ndown really nice and low for sealing that your ngoggles won t actually seal because your goggles. Obviously need to completely touch your skin in norder for them not to leak. So there s a little bit of a debate.

Here of whether you ought to do goggles. First. And then your final cap on over the top or the other way around. I know mark always puts nhis goggles on underneath.

Which looked really nice and tidy. But i personally find nthat i prefer to have mine on the outside. So i can adjust them take them off more easily and now the downside. Nof goggles underneath you re opening up the ncap and water can go in much more easily.

So today. It s nall about keeping hair dry pop music cause. I don t know what you re looking for oh. And i don t know what to do oh okay.

I think this could be a long day because i feel there might nbe wet hair underneath here. But it gets dried off in the sunshine. Let s reveal that s wet right the way through. But it s the outer layer.

So let s see you guys can probably tell if it looks dry or not this feels wet here around the edges. It feels dry to touch nanyway. Let s have a look well there you go you ncan. See the waterline.

It was seeping through so that means top the very top is dry. But i think my bun feels it feels wet. But i m going to unveil and nsee how wet it really is i think it s fair to say nit s drier than the control. But it s not really acceptable.

I can just about wring out a few drops. I m dry on top. But even nwith a really tight bun. I m amazed that the water s ngot.

All the way through that in just basically five nminutes of swimming..

So i think we need to try nanother version in a moment. But on the plus side it ndoes mean that i ve got to sit in the sun and dry my hair. But thankfully it s sunny and windy here at playitas resort. So we should get some pretty quick dry time big band music right taking it back nto basics on this one.

And it s been inspired nby a bit of research on youtube with the good old shower cap. I have spent zero pennies on this one and this is my gtn cap nwhich. I already had in my bag. So we re going to npop that one underneath.

But first just going to nput my hair up as i would normally when i m swimming. Which is in a sort of ponytail and then because it s so long. I just fold. It back on itself keep it out of the way at the back just going to try and pop my gtn cap on over the top and this is an experiment.

We ll see if it works oh gosh right. I think i need to get rid of this so just see if i can ntuck it out of the way because it s not very fetching and it s probably not going to do the job. If anything is sticking nout from the silicone cap apart from the odd lump nthis. Just feels like a normal swim cap.

Now alright. I feel like i m just going for a normal swim with this once i ve got rid of my sexy little shower cap fringe. Not sure the shower cap s ngoing to make any difference. But there s only one way to find out i don t care ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh.

Okay let s reveal oh it s all come off in one. I m going to analyze this first middle of the cap looks fairly dry and it s hard to tell nbecause my hands are wet. I can t actually tell if the water on this is on the inside or the outside. So the proof.

I guess is in my hair middle is dry ish these end bits are not going to try to wring it out nsee. If there s anything to that s a lot better than i expected. I guess there s a few downsides though with the shower cap you might want to put it non in the change room where no one s watching. But like i said earlier nit doesn t really matter what we look like if you ncan keep your hair dry.

It s got to be a good thing i feel that i actually might need to experiment with this nfor. A little bit longer because today. I m only ndoing 400 meters at a time that s all we ve nrealistically got time for but maybe next time i m filming i might put a shower cap non and not tell you guys and just see for myself a little bit different i have gotten none other than an olympic silver medalist nto plait. My hair here.

I m feeling quite quite. Spoiled banjo music. So i know this is lisa norden. If you guys don t recognize.

An olympic silver medalist nfrom. The london games in triathlon and lisa nalways has wonderful plaits in her hair. When she races and just happens to be nhere at playitas resort. When we re filming.

So very. She very kindly agreed to ngive my hair a little plait lisa. I don t have nthis much hair. Though host yeah might take you longer so my theory.

Now is my hair nis. Obviously going to be really nice and tight to my head and less of the long hair is going to be exposed to the water. So if it doesn t get entirely soaked ni. m hoping that the bits on the inside are at least not going to be damaged by the chlorine even if just these bits get wet.

So that s the theory. I have had my hair plaited in the past for racing. Although. Then obviously i don t really notice if it s dry because you re sweating so much anyway so it is an experiment.

I have to now decide what hat combination. I m going to do with this because this is obviously. None of the measures. And we can t try nabsolutely every scenario pop music.

Oh wow..

That s so cool. I ve never had that so. As lisa s gone to so much effort. I m going to go to quite na lot of effort here and try a double hat combo.

But taking it up a step nand. I m going to do one silicone hat just a nnormal silicone gtn swim cap and then i m going to nfollow and i m going to use this one again so and ni hope. This is the double sealant and that will do the job. I don t really want to have nto take the plaits out.

But sadly afterwards i nguess. I will have to so i m going to go with na back over the top. I don t have to sure don t need to alright just a little arrangement. So this is pretty much my final attempt.

And i feel like it could nbe the winning combination because not much of my hair is exposed with the plait and then nthe normal silicone cap. Which i m going to pull down over my ears properly in a moment to ntry and seal that back i m even i m actually going nto take my earrings off because i think that nwill help with the seal. And then i m going to go nwith this over the top again so covering the ears. And nhopefully sealing right around here and then i mean nif water gets through there i don t know where to nreally go from there pop music.

When i when i grow up when i grow old alright. Let s have a reveal i do feel that these nwere flipping up a bit and that might be that ni put it on too low. So. I think the water was njust coming in under here.

Ah. I can hear again that s nice right first layer first layer s definitely got some water inside it so one other layer to go oh right this bit is dry at the top round. The sides not entirely dry. I don t know what it nlooks like on my head this feel very dry all down.

Here feels nentirely dry in the middle. Think i should probably un plait. It i don t want to take my plaits out thanks lisa. But i have nto undo all this wonderful hard work that she s put in reggae music conclusion.

I can t see the mirror. But there s definitely wet around here. Although the bits of my nhair that are normally more damaged are the ends and well they look damaged but they re pretty dry. So that s got to be a plus point at least the chlorine isn t ndamaging all of my hair.

And maybe with a blast of the hair dryer. I d be good to go to work or i might still need a cap. But in all seriousness. I actually think just from that last experiment that i could feel the water going in every time i tumble nturn so it does depend on the type of swimming you re doing and if you re someone who njust does a touch turn maybe.

There s a plus point there because the water s always njust going to be going this way. And it s not going nto be forced in the sides because it s the ears. That seem nto be causing the problems well at the end of the day. Nthere are so many options and a few disclaimers nwe.

ve all got slightly different head shapes and ndifferent styles of hair and different ways in which nwe can put our hair up. But rounding all of that up i would say the tighter you can make your hair. Then the drier. It s going nto stay so if you can manage a plait.

Which nobviously. I can t do myself or a high bun that seemed nto keep my hair. The driest and then when it comes to ncaps a double layer seems to give double protection nwhich. I guess makes sense and that extra large cap nseemed to help keeping the ears slightly drier nand.

Obviously it gives room if you ve got more hair. There s still so many ndifferent versions of that and i did only ever swim nfor 400 meters at a time which isn t necessarily nreal. But if you re someone who just does touch nturns and breaststroke you re probably going nto find that all those methods keep your hair dry. I think all that leaves for me to say is go away and experiment nwe ve given you some ideas.
