I was wondering what has inspired you to lead such a and are there any campaigns that you re currently a fan of hey there any campaigns that well it was a great fan of apple. And i don t know if any of you read steve jobs book walter isaacson. That s a must if any of you are interested in the world of business at all or creating anything i would suggest you really read his that book and i had great respect for his advertising.
I m even working with some people who work with steve to help this school in new york. It s a group of schools with imaging because their imaging was was fantastic apple nikes image. Really very strong. What was the first part of your question.
What s inspired you to lead calvin klein s marketing campaign. Well. I thought i could tell the story better than anyone else. And i like to push the envelope and i i like to work with really creative people art directors photographers hair stylists makeup people you know i just love the process and then i like being i like being in control that i can then decide how it s cut and how or how it s edited and decide what i want to run you know i loved it i do that at night.
Yeah what do you think about the interplay between traditional social conventions and fashion for instance should bankers and lawyers wear suits and what do you think about maxim s like for shoes. No brown on town the shoe part i think i missed no brown in town here in london..
People say you shouldn t wear brown shoes to work if you re a lawyer or a banker. I ve never want brown shoes in my life. You know it depends on the location. My closest friends live in in los angeles.
A place i would never live. But everyone s more relaxed. It s only in new york with the people i rarely wear suits. I mean i have so many suits.
But i wear jackets all the time but usually with jeans and t shirts and i thought of you get dressed for you guys this morning in new york. I expect my my business manager and my investment advisors. Happen to be women the people who ran my companies were all women because i always thought i was in the women s business. So i hired smart women and but i i would i wouldn t feel good if in new york.
If if my banker or my tax advisor came in and jeans and a t shirt. I would just think no in la they can get away they get away with it because no one wears jackets they just dressed down..
But it s in new york. It s in new york is different than the rest of the united states. I think it does close send a message. I mean you know you could be very casual.
But if you have style and if you do it right people get it they may not be aware of it. But it s but they get it so close and depending on the culture depending on the place. Where you live how you dress it all it all goes together in your pursuit for perfection. Perhaps an artistic pursuit for perfection were you an easy boss.
Where you would delight to work for do you think all you difficult to work for in your opinion. I i really don t know the answer to that question my my ex wife. She used to working in one of the design studios. Because we had a design studio for every product category and sometimes she would say to me.
She says we do all of this work. We do all of these colors..
All of these fabrics to show you and then you come in and you just we do everything and you know. She said. It s like really can be discouraging and then it got worse than that because there were times. When i remember thinking are these people crazy they re showing me this is awful.
It s just awful and sometimes i would say it i wasn t easy. But on the other hand. I changed it took me years to to ease up a bit. And i had a wonderful relationship with with many of the people that i worked with and maybe.
That s the only part that i miss is and i do see some of them. But that wonderful type we were like a family but they understood you know they i mean i can name a number of designers. I mean people because i used to interview people who worked for other designers. And there is a lot of pressure.
And there s panic near show time and the designers can get crazy and very difficult impossible to be around. But that s the fashion business..
It s exciting. Yes is there an item of clothing right now that s really popular or fashionable. That you absolutely hate or something that you absolutely love no. I m not really paying that much attention like to fashion week in new york.
I was in paris recently while the couture shows were going on it s the there isn t one thing. That is the best or the worst. There are people that dress really badly and some who who dress really well. But i can t think of anything that s that bad it depends on who wears it i mean if you have some absolutely gorgeous.
20 year old with long legs and an amazing body. She can wear things that look pretty terrible on someone twice her age. So i think it s it s it s age appropriate too. ” .
