Guy and today we will be be taking a look at a brand new dell inspiron n. 7010 laptop okay so is a 17 inch laptop when i pulled it out of the box let s spare any steve corral s that s what she said last night joke. But exactly what i said was oh my god that thing is huge.
So the laptop is needless to say for for having a 17 inch screen. It is a full size let s just leave it at that so let s examine the exterior real quick. So the top lid has some kind of a brushed metal appearance. But it s not it s plastic and there is rather significant amount of flex up at the top lid right there and as we are looking at the other side.
There s there s a little bit of lip. That s coming out. So the hinges go into towards the body. A little bit and let s start evaluating what kind of ports.
We have so the general shape of the laptop it kind of tapers off as you go here. So it s a wedgie shape. There is a ethernet and there s esata port usb dual in the double duty. Port.
Here s a blu ray drive dvd. Burner and speakers and as we come to the other side you have your usb port vent audio input output hdmi card reader and on the back you have your usb vga another usb and the power. So that kind of rounds out the exterior and as we open up the laptop. There she is and boy or drive.
Again. So. The surface were the palm rest and such again. It has a some sort of a silver metallic look to it.
But it is a you know plastic it it s plastic. It feels cheap the black bottom plastic is also pretty cheap feeling and you know it is a cheap laptop. I believe this unit cells at best buy for about 780 and you know let me give you the specs real quick right this has core i5..

It is not sandy bridge. It s the original core i5 and it comes with a 6 gig of ram and for a machine with such spec. It s very sluggish. It is no secret to my friends and my professional acquaintances that i don t have much love for dell equipment especially at dell computers.
I you know historically their equipment was always sourced with parts that were somewhat inferior inferior. Whether that s because they ll needed to drive the cost as they were in mail order business initially that s how they i became big. It s just the performance just is never there it s kinda you know. It s a run of the mill kind of middle of the road.
There is nothing special about their equipment. And this really represents them well i ll give you some benchmark numbers later. But even the keyboard. You know again.
It s the typical dell consumer line of laptop keyboard. It s just very flimsy. I don t like the feedback travel is not all that great what they do give you is a full size keyboard with the phone number pad. Obviously with the laptop.
This side that is definitely possible so boy let s just jump right into it huh. So as we are looking at the laptop. Okay so this unit. A client of mine.
Purchased out of a best buy and brought it in and when you buy the laptop from pests. Buy and you let them sabotage your machine. What happens is geek squad take over the machine and they bust. It out of the box.
And they do their very rudimentary setting and i ll tell you how they completely sabotage this machine. So the person bought the laptop for 780 then they sold the customer ask an agent whatever that is for six months and they cost 19 and let s see what other garbage then there s the webroot antivirus for 17 bucks. And i want this i won t say anything about that because you do need some sort of protection..

Whether that is you know adequate or not it is a whole another subject matter and then the hole or is it two year of some kind of a you know you know the the post warranty things so they sold them so that to them for. 270 and they. Charges. 99.
9999. For setting off the computer. Well. Let s really take a look at that because you know the set up.
There there is a whole lot that goes on in there and as i can see here s what they ve done to set this computer up quote unquote set up first there s a geek squad. Support. App. That s been loaded and there s the web root anti antivirus that the person bought and there s the pest by pc app.
So the best buy pc of all it does is is some sort of a ui into best buddies online store. So you could buy more things from them. So you know i don t have anything against best buy. I go there all the time to buy different gadgets or what have you you know.
It s if i need to make a quick run to get some grab something you know it s all good. But the way geek squad. Treats you know computer illiterate people with all these unnecessary things and the way they charge for very meaningless. You know items that s what irks me.
But anyhow when i ran the bench. When i ran all the benchmark numbers not just this computer. But i always disabled things and remove applications that will hinder any performance therefore. I always try to run the benchmark numbers as close as possible with the hardware being taken advantage of you know 100 percent.
So let s take a look at the when i ran the geekbench benchmark. It came in as surprising extremely surprisingly low benchmark number of 4180 in a core i5 laptop from other. Manufacturers and what have you i have not seen anything below 5000..

So this computer having core i5 you know the geekbench benchmark number is extremely low and i ll share with you the what is it pc mark all 5 benchmark numbers. I m sorry the camera may not catch that if i zoom into it. Perhaps. If the camera focus is ok.
So. The cpu benchmark a sixty to ninety. One memory benchmark came in at 5200 79. Hard.
Drive performs came in at 5100 17. So again for a computer with the core i5. The loaded what s a 6 gb ram. It just the performance is just not there.
And you know the screen one thing about that even though i kind of bash. The dell computers earlier one thing about dell is their laptop display has always been very crisp. Very bright and very you know easy on the eye to work with and you know image definition everything. I do i love that about that i love the dell computers for that and this else lcd panel does not disappoint.
It is extremely crisp and it s very sharp has a 1600 by 900 native resolution. So it retains a 16 by 9 for movie experience. And everything else. It s that s one of the good things going for this particular laptop.
But as i just showed you the benchmark numbers and your performance is just not. There you know it takes very long time to boot up even with all the startup items disabled. One of the things that you can tell. It s that is you know the windows.
7 login sound sample that comes up ready after the desktop actually loads. Which is just in tulare asst. And also the consumer line of a laptop from a lot of manufacturers you know lately do this you know hp does it dell does it..

But what happens is they give you this dock with you know shortcuts or what have you for you know quickly launching you know often use the applications or whatnot basically. It s like a mac os. Tens dock. Which comes on the bottom right.
I never understood the reason. Why they would clutter up one s desktop with this kind of garbage is because isn t that what the apart down here is for so you know that right there is just i understand you know the laptops like this and you know geared toward the consumers not savvy business users or what have you but then today s day of the age. I mean people know how to you know do things if they need to and of course. This being a consumer driven laptop.
It has a lot of a crap where pre loaded. You know even picking out the geek squad and pacify garbage. All that so it still had to it still had a lot of things that needed to be removed. So that s also something that goes against a you know standard to me that sets apart a good laptop versus a bad laptop.
So you know it s however you know for it being a 17 inch laptop. It s not heavy so you know i don t know what that exactly means. I m sorry my dog is barking very unprofessional anyhow. So the laptop is pretty light.
So there must be a lot of empty space inside the laptop. So basically the dimension that you re seeing is there to support the huge lcd that s basically the only good this laptop so there you go i didn t mean to really bash this particular laptop. But this laptop doesn t have a whole lot going for it even without any of the best buy middle is mutilation of this laptop with loading of their apps or what have you i would recommend against this laptop should anyone approach me. And there are plenty of other great options at competing price range.
