“Welcome to video tracks tube. Okay. Let s say you have a video that s s about six minutes long. And you found a music track for it that fits in terms of the style.
The tempo the mood. But there s one thing wrong. It doesn t fit the full length of your video. So what are you gonna do well in this video.
I m gonna talk to you about looping looping is a method that you can use to extend your music track out as far as you want in order to fill out your video. Now. I m gonna be using a piece of software called audacity audacity can be found right here at this website. They have versions for windows mac.
And linux and the really cool thing about this is that it s absolutely free okay. I have audacity open here. You know what before i forget let me show you something if you re feeling guilty. And it s killing you go back to the audacity website.
And they have a tab there donate you can use visa maybe paypal. And some other things anyway just kidding. But there it is the first thing we need to do in audacity to import the music track that we want to work on so go to file open locate the track. Wherever you might have saved it just click on it now you may have seen this before.
But let me go ahead and explain a few things here. If you look right here at the beginning. You see. The blobs are kind of narrow.
That s indicating that the music is soft and over here the blobs get really wide so you know what that s right they re louder. But let s focus on this area here and take a look at these needle points. You might want to call them right here. These are what we call transients.
They are areas of the music that get loud suddenly and then right after very quickly. The music gets soft again let me point out a few things about some functions that we ll be using in audacity up in the left hand corner. We have a play button right next to that is to stop and if you want to pause right there. And these buttons right here are skip to the start so.
If i click that the cursor moves to the beginning then right next to it we have skip to the end. And that takes the cursor away over here to the end of the file now we have a record button here. But we re not going to be using that so we won t worry about it. But right below.
We have the zoom in button. Let me show you how that works let me place the cursor here click on zoom in and you can see after a few clicks this cursor gets centered and you keep zooming in around that cursor now next to the zoom in we have zoom out and of course that does the opposite..
Okay. Now i ve zoomed way out. So that i have a huge empty area here if you go back to the zoom area zoom button area you find a fit project if you click on that that will fill the whole project area. One thing.
We can do to loop or to extend the music track out is select the entire track copy. It skip to the end and paste its zoom out with the fit project button. So you see taking all of this and added it to the very end so. We ve got about a two minute track.
Let s listen to that and see how how it sounds. That s not gonna work is it you have this huge empty space. There. And if the music just starts over again.
Now that s not to say this will never work. There are some tracks out there which are created specifically so that you can do this sort of thing and they re called loops they described them as loops because you can paste them end to end and they would just loop seamlessly. But that s not gonna work with something like this because this is a music track that has a beginning a middle and an end so let s undo the paste and go back to the fit project button and zoom out so we want something that s musical. Something that sounds seamless that will play from the beginning of the video to the end of the video and not be distracting in any way from what s happening in the video now in order to do that we re gonna have to listen to our track.
Here a little bit more carefully so let s go back to the beginning. And see what s going on here. So we have a star here that s mostly guitar some synthesizer drums come in he wore instrument bass flaps strains that s playing full on here and it sounds like a chorus in the song. We re back to something we ve heard before okay.
So if we can summarize. We could call this right here some kind of introduction. Where the guitar is playing with a synthesizer. Then the drums come in we add bass and claps and strings.
You might even call that a verse or build up then we get to this section. Which i referred to as might be like a chorus. Which is a lot as part of the track and then we have at the end here. This section.
Which sounded a lot like something that s happening in here wasn t exactly the same. But it was similar the trick is to find two areas in the music that are very similar to each. Other copy from one and paste to the other now we ve identified this area as being very similar to what s happening in here. So what we re gonna do is find a good place here to start copy to the end and then paste it somewhere in this area.
Now. Let s go back and listen over here and try to find a good spot. Let s see what that sounds like on the other side okay. So we were pretty close.
Let s try right about there does that sound similar to this right here. Okay..
So it s this transient right. Here. Let s place the cursor somewhere in there and use the zoom in button. Now take a look at this you see a wave here that s pretty similar especially right here.
It doesn t change a whole lot here it gets narrower. But if you look in this area. It s very similar doesn t change a lot and then suddenly you get this huge change. Here.
Now if we zoom out just one more time very quickly there s our transient now. If you think about how we count out music this happens to be in groups of 4 beats. So it s 1 2. 3.
4. 1. 2. 3.
4. Everyone is very strong every time. You count one. It s very strong you can hear that now if we listen okay.
That s that s what we want to find is a once. So you can place the cursor start counting and see if it works out for you let s try it again. Now you know you re in the right spot. So let s zoom in again.
And let s get pretty close to this. I m gonna tell you something this has to be somewhat accurate. But not super accurate cuz once i paste this in and you listen to it you re gonna see it s just fine. It doesn t have to be perfect remember this is similar waveform doesn t change you re looking for a sudden change in the waveform and that s what we get over here.
So let s let s just put the cursor here. I m not even going to zoom in much more than that i think that ll be good go back to the fit project button. Now with audacity as you get close to the cursor. It turns into a pointing finger right at that point hold down the left mouse button and drag all the way to the end and go back here to the edit menu and copy now we need to pay somewhere out here.
And we identify. This area s being pretty much it now you could see this is right after the area. I called a course where the volume gets softer and suddenly it gets loud here again. So let s zoom in there.
And you see the same sort of pattern waveform that doesn t change a whole lot and then all of a sudden you get a big change right here. That s probably a good place to paste in what we ve copied let s zoom in a little bit..
More and let s do it right. There. That s about where the complete change comes go back to the edit menu and paste. So go back here to the fit project button.
And zoom out so we can see everything so now we have extended from about a one minute to a 1 45 minute music track now i pasted right about right here. So let s start the music from this point. And see if it s seamless let s see if it actually works out perfect alright. I really like that so you see it didn t have to be super accurate.
It just has to be closed okay and we hear it as a seamless piece of music now i need to point some out there s something going on here. What audacity that i well. I actually haven t tried to figure this out i haven t even tried because i don t really care about what s happening here. If you look at this area.
Here you ll see it s exactly like this here. Now some of you really smart people out there probably already know what s going on. But i have no clue and i don t care because all i need to do is zoom in copy that excuse me select. It there go back to edit remove audio and cut.
And it s gone. I really don t have time to figure out what s going on there it s too too simple to to fix to bother with figuring it out anyway so we have a track that goes out about a minute 45. We ve extended it now we were talking about a six minute video earlier and this is it s just not gonna work. But you know what it s really simple because all we have to do is go back and repeat the same process copy from here somewhere over here from here to the end actually and paste in right there.
So let s go back over. Here. Now. I should pause for a moment here.
And tell you you re probably wondering you know what am. I doing here. How am. I finally in these areas.
So quick. Well my has gotten used to finding you know the the important points. And the music just by looking at this waveform looking for the peaks and i ll tell you what it s not very difficult at all you can just spend you know a half hour just trying to sell yourself and you ll see that you ll begin to find them very quickly you know as human beings. We look for patterns where they don t exist and when they do exist they re really easy to find i mean you can see here.
There s a pattern of repetition right there and then again over here. So don t worry about it. If you can t see it right now. And you re you feel a little bit lost as you do this a few times.
You ll find it s not as difficult as it looks so let me point something else out right here that we could have done earlier to make our job. A little faster here i ve placed the cursor back near to where we need to copy from let s zoom in and choose that area again here..
It is right here click over there zoom in and let s put it right about there. That s where the wave changes now we could have used what we find here in this tracks menu called add label that selection. So let s click on that. And it adds.
A label and you can name it whatever you want i ll just throw. In some numbers and click the fit project button here and now you see we have a label that we can locate very easily so as i bring my mouse close to that the cursor changes to a pointing finger i can hold down the left mouse button drag to the end go back to the edit menu and copy now i need to come back and paste over here. So. Let s zoom in there.
And there s that waveform that s very similar and over here you get the big change. And you know what see this little v sort of shape i remember that from before so i m gonna click right there go back to the edit menu and paste let s zoom back out. And you see now that we ve had more data to copy our track is twice as long so if i choose from here again to the end remember i m copying from the end all the way to this spot. Which is almost three minutes.
So if i add to that again. I ll have about a six minute track. So you see you can keep doing this over and over again. If you if you want to fill a 15 minute video.
It s just a matter of copying and pasting. Now. I did forget something though remember. I said audacity adds.
This here at the end let s click right there and get rid of that so hold down the left mouse button select to the end and i m gonna hit the delete key on my keyboard that works too as well as edit remove and cut so zoom back out with the fit. The project button and well. It s almost three minutes. Really close there so that s all it takes you just do this over and over again until you get the length that you want very simple process.
Once you know how to do it it ll take just a few minutes. It s taken me a while here to explain a few things. But i guarantee you once you get to know this process of looping once you know where the music. It s gonna go.
