“To source card in this video. We ll learn about making custom hatch patterns in in autocad and basically we will be using two different methods for that so we use express tool called super hatch. And also we ll use a custom code. Which we just call it as hatch code.
So we ll be using these two methods for making hatches custom hatches in this video. So let s get started alright. So let s start with the super hatch tool. And that s an express tool.
Which is available in a full autocad and not in autocad lt. Even in autocad. You need to ensure that express tool is installed and when it is installed you should be able to see a new tab just like this this express tool tab and in this tab. We have the tool right here super hatch.
If you don t have express tools installed. You need to install it first in order to access this super hatch command now since i have it here already installed. And it s ready to use let s get started with this and before we can actually use this tool. We need to make a block because for making this a block is required now let s go to home.
And i ll make a very simple block here so i m going to start with rectangle and let s make a block with length of 1 and width of 1 so i m gonna type at 1 comma. 1 alright. We have this very tiny block here this rectangle actually and now i m gonna go to circle 3 point. I ll click on 3 midpoints of this okay and let s rotate this one to 90 degrees or maybe 45 degrees.
So 45 that looks good now this will be one of the patterns that will be used in our complete. Hatch. So this pattern will repeat itself. And we can make hatch with so let s convert this one into a block first so i m gonna go to block and create block let s give it a name so a limit as sample pick point center select objects select.
All of them enter. And with the default option. Selected here convert to block scale uniformly allow exploding. They re checked.
Open and block. Editor. Unchecked. And okay.
So the block is created it s right here. It s also added here in the block library. We can also remove this it s no longer needed and let s make a rectangle. Little big.
One just like this okay now go to express. Tool and super hatch. You can also use its command. Su p.
Rho. A tch. If you want to use this directly using command line. So i ll go to this and now here.
We have a couple of options. Which we can use to make this so. We can use image. Block.
X. Reps and wipeouts also for making this custom hatch. But in this case. We ll use block.
So i ll go to block and autocad will automatically show you the list of blocks. Which are available here in our case. We just have a single block. Which is sample.
So the sample block is visible here so just keep the defaults selected and click on ok and place this block anywhere just anywhere inside this or may be outside also if you want now we need to specify the scale factor. Which is one so if you add one has a scale factor. The original size of a block will be added. And i ll keep that at 1.
So i ll simply press enter now rotation angle let s keep it. 0. Okay now is this placement acceptable this kind of placement for the block yes. It is so press enter again now we need to tell about the extents.
So you can define any two points. Here..
And that will become the extents of our so you need to select two diagonally opposite point so i m gonna select this point the top left and then bottom right point so this is the x tense. Now press. Enter and we are done now we need to specify the area where we want to add the hatch pattern it s right here so i m gonna click here press enter and look at this the pattern is now added in this and that s the hatch pattern. Which we created this is one of the part and it s been repeated here now.
This is pretty easy. I mean making a custom kind of hash pattern. It s obviously very easy with the help of super hatch. But this tool has its own limitations first and the pretty obvious.
One is you won t be able to transfer this hatch pattern. This hatch pattern is made inside this drawing one the drawing which you currently have and there is no way of transferring this hatch pattern to any other file. So that s kind of a limitation. Another limitation associated with this hatch pattern is you cannot just modify this thing.
Because if you select the pattern autocad will not recognize this thing as a pattern and instead. If you just hover your cursor. You ll notice that this thing is a block reference. It s not even a hatch.
It may look like a hatch. But it s not actually a hatch pattern. So that s also a problem because if you cannot modify this thing then maybe. It s not always useful in every kind of situation.
Now. If you want to make a really very customizable kind of hatch pattern. Which you can modify and which can be modified in really very different ways like scale colors and things like that then you can use the hatch code or kind of a code. Which ordered excuse is to create the hatch pattern and in this case.
We can make hatch pattern not inside this auric at the user interface instead we need a third party software and one of the software. Which is pre installed in windows operating system can be used for this and that s notepad. So you can actually use notepad to make that hatch pattern. Now as i mentioned earlier this kind of hatch pattern.
Although is little key has its own advantages for example you can modify its properties. You can change the scale. And you can even transfer that hash pattern from one pc to other so. In this case.
I ll make a simple hash pattern that looks like a simple staircase or a stair kind of effect and to do that i ll start from a simple notepad file. So i ll right click and i ll open a text document here okay now here in this text editor let s start with this a starred sign now. That s how we start hash patterns. And we need to start with the name.
So i ll call. It source cad ok. Then comma and the description alright. So here is our description.
So stereotype hash pattern. That s what we want now press. Enter and start with the first line of hatch. So generally hatches are made with multiple lines and multiple shapes and for each and every single line.
You need to add its own line code. So we ll start the first line which would be horizontal and for horizontal line the angle should be 0. So the first character is actually angle so 0 degrees. Then comma and now specify the point from where you want to start the hatch pattern so we want to start it from origin so 0 comma 0.
Now this is not the absolute origin or it s not the origin of your drawing. Rather. It s the origin for that hatch pattern. Only so this is a little bit different than the actual origin.
But it will work more or less like the same now with respect to this origin. You need to define the delta value. The distance or the displacement along x. And y.
And so the displacement. Along. X. And y.
Will be 2. Comma. 2. Along.
X 2. Units..
And along y 2. Units. That s what we want now comma and now you need to add the length and the gap for this line. So pen up and pen down so these kinds of things that we need to add so pen down is the length and then pen up is the gap.
So the length of this line will be 2 unit and the gap will be 2. So for the gap. We are adding negative value now if these things are not clear to you now don t worry i ll explain this in a moment. Once we have our hatch pattern.
So now press enter again and now we ll add the second line of this hatch. So in this case. The line should be vertical. So i m going to type 90 for the angle.
Then comma and again the origin or the point from where this hatch pattern should start so. In this case. The pattern should start at an offset of 2 unit. Long.
X. Axis. So the origin should be 2 comma. 0.
With respect to the previous origin. This one okay now the offset along x. And y or the delta value. So.
This will be once again with respect to this point. So with respect to this point. The delta should be 2 comma. 2.
So a gap of 2 unit. Along x. And y is needed for making this hatch. Pattern.
Alright. Now again pen up and pen down value. So the length and the gap. So we need a length of 2 for this line.
This vertical line and a gap of 2 for that we ll add minus 2. So we have now defined our hatch pattern. We need to add just one blank space. So press.
Enter. And that will add a blank space. And this is also important you need to ensure that there is at least one blank space after the complete hatch pattern. Then only autocad will be able to make the patterns.
Okay we are done now let s save it so i ll go to file save. As and you need to save this file as a p80 file or the pattern file. So i ll save it on desktop and all files. And you need to ensure that the name here and the name in this file should be exactly the same so i ll type source.
Cat dot p. A. T. Alright and save now.
Look. At this. A new source. Cad.
File. Is created the pattern file. And this pattern file will be now the hatch pattern and this will now create the hatch pattern that we need so let s close it let s go to the autocad and now i ll make a simple hatch pattern inside this rectangle. So i ll make a rectangle and in order to make that hatch pattern inside this rectangle in order to add that we need to first tell autocad where to look for this file right now.
It s on desktop and autocad is simply not aware of its location. So in order to tell that you need to go to options. And this file tab and you need to include desktop in this list of support files or you can also copy paste that file inside this support file folder. If you want or any of these so in this case instead of copying and pasting that file that pattern file inside this or any of these folders.
I ll add that location the techstop location in this list for that i ll click on add and the blinking cursor will show up just click on browse and select desktop and ok so next stop is now added as one of the support file locations just click on ok and ok again if something else prompts up and there we have it now autocad will be able to figure out the location of that pattern file. And it will be able to read that information..
So let s go to this hatch and from the list of patterns just to scroll down and look at this. We now have our source cat custom house pattern select and click. And there we have it so the pattern is now added. Ok you can change the scale.
Obviously. So the scale is 1 let s change it to maybe. 4. And there it is so the hatch pattern is created now in this case.
You can change the origin. If you want for example. The hatch is now starting randomly. But if you want to define a particular origin and in this case.
The origin is the zero point zero point. Which we defined in the pattern. Then click on set origin and click at a point. Now that point will become the point from where the first horizontal line will start okay.
We have defined it let s click on up close hatch. Creation and the hatch is now added. Now you can transfer this hatch simply by transferring this pattern file. And that will just transfer it and even after making the hatch.
If you select it you will be able to modify this. And the hatch options will show up now let s understand these pattern lines in the context of this pattern. Which we created so i m going to open this file. Here.
It is it s now open and let s open autocad as well let s see what these things are so the first one is the name and after star. We have the name then comma and then the description. So that s kind of very easy. The first line is name and description.
And it will always start with this star sign or this asterix sign. The second line. Here is the horizontal line and here you can see that this hatch pattern is actually a repeating pattern of horizontal and vertical lines okay so let s look at the first line on the lower left corner. So this is starts with a zero degree angle.
And that is horizontal. So the line is obviously horizontal this one and the line starts from zero comma zero. Which is actually let s just bring it here this zero comma zero is actually this point so it s not the absolute origin. It s just an origin that you define here in this case.
We define this point is the origin. So that s gonna be either zero comma zero point so from this point a line started. Which is horizontal. Now the length of that line is two and the cap is two so the length of this line is two and then there is a gap of two and then again two.
Now this line is not visible in this case. Because it s being overlapped by this boundary. But if you look at the other patterns here it is then gap of 2 then 2 and so on this pattern will repeat itself. Now let s talk about this offset value so.
The first pattern line is right here. You know that this is the first pattern line and then the gap between this line and the next line along y axis is 2. And the gap between this line. And then the next horizontal line along x.
Axis. Is also 2. So that s this offset value the x and y. Offset value are the x.
Why delta value so that s how this pattern is defined now let s look at the second one. Now. This is the 90 degree angle line and in this case. The line starts from 2 comma.
0. So we re talking about this line because this is obviously at 90 degrees you can see that and it s starting from point 2 comma. 0. With respect to this origin.
So this was the origin. This is point. 2 comma. 0.
With respect to this we have this line now from this point from this first line. We have again an offset of 2 along y..
Because the next pattern here is starting at a gap of 2 unit. Along this x. Axis. Distance.
And also if you look at another line. Along this y axis distance the gap is again. 2 unit. So after the gap of 2.
We have along this y as well as along x. We have it at a distance of 2. Don t get confused with this and this we have these 2 at a gap of 4. But obviously the lines are offset in this way.
This is the first line then second then third and the gap between this and this one is obviously. 2 to 2 along x and 2 to along y. That s what this delta value is and once again the last one is length and the offset gap. So the length is 2.
Then a gap of 2. The length of 2 and cap of 2. So that s how this hatch pattern is defined now in this case. You can add as many lines as you want if you want to add more lines in this hatch.
But you can do that as well for example. Let s add another one with an angle of 45 degrees comma. Now in this case. We want that line to start exactly here.
So we wanted to start from here and for that obviously we need. 2 comma. 0. As the starting point and again now if it starts from here.
Then we want the next line on this pattern to start from here. So the offset is again. 2 comma. 2.
And there is no length or gap. We just want a continuous liner and if you want add length and maybe a gap. Then you can add that value as well so maybe. Let s just do that so i ll add two as the length and then minus 2.
Has the gap. Okay so if i defined that press. Enter to add a blank line file save as but before that let s change its name. So its source cad.
Let s call it sauce card. 1. And file save. As and this should be so scared.
1. Dot. Pa t. Ok.
All files can save now we have a new file here so scared one let s add that pattern as well in this case. So. I m gonna make another rectangle. We have source cat one file here so let s go to hatch.
We have source cat. One here select it and just look at this so we have this 45 degree inclined line here. So that s how you can define as many hatch patterns as you want and for modifying the hatch pattern. All you need to do is just change a simple piece of code.
