Today, newyorkcityvoices.org would like to introduce to you How to test Integrated/Aftermarket Trailer Brake Controller Output.. Following along are instructions in the video below:
re here today to talk about the ica electric brake force meter with low stimulation stimulation i have a truck here 2013 gmc sierra no in my trailer for a here but spective some issues with my innovative brake controller so its all left has this also ipa just little plug in angel looking thing you plug it into the back and tells you what circuits come on problem. There that doesnt simulate a brake look so i cant really work on the electric brakes. I cant tell anything about them i hooked up a couple trailer brakes the flow.
But all that was telling me is that they were connected to the truck. It wasnt tell me what my offer was so in comes. This tool.
Ive got the wire area strong to come from 25 foot cable. So well try to do here to talk about how this works and well see what the output is if youre familiar with integrated brake controllers. This is a felt bill sign if youre not familiar with them slide bar plus minus set up you look on the dash.
You could see zero output put my foot on the brake. It basically giving me no output. So when i collect this tool.
Well see what happens you see the light is blinking several things are going on thats trailer connected ok. Thats a good sign. I wasnt getting that with the other tool just to start with ece detective.
Thats telling me that this fester. Which has a microprocessor in it is connecting to the trucks computer. So i know the trucks computer is sending out a proper signal.
We have a good connection.
The power light is flickering that tells me actually explains a little bit of what i was seeing when i hooked up my voltmeter to the back. I was getting a little bit of a flicker. Im not still not sure for something wrong with structure thats what its supposed to do but im getting that display here so lets see what happens when i put my foot on the brake.
Im going to adjust the gain of 10 put my foot on the brake. You see the blue leds. Okay big all the way to 10 let my foot off the brake.
A little bit back on a little bit of delay. My foots on the floor. But you can see its ok have we signed up the tools working the truck is putting out everything looks good.
I want to do a little bit of an experiment here so ive got everything set up to 10.
Im going to back it off lets go. But lets go right down the strip alright. So you can see the truck screen so six.
And im hearing about seven go click down the five and a half its showing six. So im within a half point it looks like now it seems we matching up identically. Yeah.
So basically round up to the next number. So were pretty close there. Now one thing i want to try was reaction time please if i put my foot on the brake and you watch them a vehicle screen it goes up almost instantaneously right.
But now lets watch it with the tool.
So ill ill yell out and my foot hits the floor put them floor that setup. All the way you can see the delay. So the truck is telling me.
When i take the trailer down the road that im getting instantaneous power. Theres actually this latent black which kind of explains a lot it didnt feel like my brakes were grabbing right away so thats interesting i dont know if it changes when i go down the road. I might actually run this through the window.
Because ive got the core take it down the road and see if it changes with speed. Im not going to try to videotape that while i do it. But maybe thatll be a video for a future time.
But so far so good. Im impressed the tool does what it says i understand a lot more about the truck and see what it works see how it works when i drive. This is the ipa 90 107 brake force meter and oh by the way one thing and use this make sure the vehicles are running before you plug the tool in all the directions.
It does make a difference. .
