Today, newyorkcityvoices.org would like to introduce to you Jaybird X4 review: The newest iteration is better for a reason. Following along are instructions in the video below:
“I m adam alina. Now you re probably wondering how i got here a few few days ago. I got a hold of a new pair of earbuds to review exercise headphones and because we take testing products so seriously here at sound guys. I m currently running in 96.
Degree weather all for this video say hello to the brand new j. Bird. X. Force.
So j. Bert has pretty much been running the game. When it comes to bluetooth headphones for fitness. The x 2 s a couple of years ago was a hit and ever since then they ve released the freedoms.
The x 3s and even a pair of true wireless earbuds that jaybird run. Now the company s back with another pair of boots with earbuds. The x fours. So.
What s new and are they any better than the previous generations or is it just the same old story in a different cover let s find out. But first let s answer. A pretty simple question who should buy these first and foremost fitness lovers. Obviously just like the x 3s and the x 2.
s before them these were made for exercise. And are also a pretty great all around pair of earbuds for the gym second people debating if they should get the x 3s normally. I m all for waiting for a new model to come out so i can pick up the older model at a discount. But that really isn t the case with the x4 is because these now have an ip x7 certification.
Which makes them waterproof and which makes them at least to me worth the money. Let s just jump right into the biggest upgrade with the jaybird x. 4. s waterproofing.
.
It s one of my biggest complaints with the previous x threes was that it didn t have an ip x. Certification. They just had a sweat. Proof coating.
Now the j. Bert. X. Fours.
See that sort proof coating and raise you an ip x7. Waterproof. Certification. Finally.
Now these aren t the first earbuds to have a sweat proof coating and an ip x7 certification. But it s a welcome addition to the jaybird lineup. Even if the company is playing butt catchup here besides that there really aren t too. Many differences in how these look and feel the story is similar to the last time with emphasis put on refining the line instead of redefining.
It they re still made of plastic. Which is good because it keeps them light at about fourteen point seven grams. And the control. Module is still super.
Slim. It s actually almost exactly the same as the module on two x threes. Which is fine considering how slim that was the only other real differences. I could find we re more in terms of design than in build quality for one the jaybird logo is now part of the paint job instead of imprinted on a cheap metallic sticker.
Second the wingtips are also different now not sure how much that matters and third the nozzle on the all gray x4 model. Here is painted blue and i m all for it no one else. But you will know whenever you change the ear tips and that s what i like about it it s like having your own little secret. It s just something fun just like the previous module.
.
The control module has three buttons on it and i had no problem reaching for them while running to adjust volume or skip between tracks speaking of running. I was a huge fan of the plastic cinch on the cable that lets you adjust it on the fly j. Bert has always had it but i was never able to make it work for me and just ended up wearing the earbuds dangling under my chin. These are the first time.
I was able to wear them comfortably behind my head without needing to worry about them slipping out of my ears. So yeah. The fit is pretty great. Especially.
When you swap out the silicone ear tips for the memory foam ones. Although. The memory foam tips do help with isolation. They were surprisingly uncomfortable.
So. If you re gonna be wearing these for a long period of time that might be something to keep in mind. Practically. I didn t have any issues with connection with the x fours whether i was running or just using them around my room.
The connection. Pretty much remained unbreakable as long as the source device was within arm s reach now again practically no issues. But the nerd in me still wishes that these at least had bluetooth 5 or nfc for easy pairing to satisfy the lazy side of me it just seems like j. Bert.
Did like the bare minimum here as far as playback controls go you can adjust the volume by tapping the plus or minus buttons and skip between tracks by holding them down then there s the multifunction button in the middle which acts as a player pause button or an answer an end call button when tapped and gives you access to siri or the google assistant when you hold it down then there s a jaybird app that lets you connect to your spotify account and play music through it i don t really know why you would do that what s actually useful here are the eq presets that you can sift through to change how your music sounds and if you don t find one that you like you can always just make one yourself and save it as a preset. Then there s the battery life last time with the x3 s. Jaybird claimed around eight hours of constant playback and hit. The nail on the head with those with the j.
Bert x. Fours. Nothing has changed they claimed eight hours of constant playback and in our testing. We got just under that at seven point five hours to charge them just pop them back in the charging cradle and throw it into a usb port somewhere.
.
It s still annoying and a little cumbersome. But i guess. It s better than having a thicker control module with a charging port on it. Though you can kind of eq.
These and change the way they sound in the app. I kept these on the flat profile. Which is how they came fresh out the box. Even still.
The x4 seemed to have a slightly emphasized low end. The thumping bass kicks into song generator second floor by freelance whales wasn t overpowering at any point. And i would say that the slight push actually helped me hear the music a little better. While i was running lower notes are usually the first to go when there s outside noise.
And the extra oomph really helped nicely. Though you might be disappointed. If you re used to the exaggerated bass of something like the power beats threes. But if you do fall in that category you can always just pick that sound profile in the app.
I wasn t a huge fan of the mids and it s probably because they seem to overemphasize vocals. A little too much over the other instruments again not bad if you want to sing along to your music. While you re working out. But not the best for hearing.
The nuances in your favorite tracks. They just seem to be lacking in clarity of it that same theme applies to the highs which were present. But just not all that detailed are exciting as is the case with most fitness earbuds. I don t think the lack of sound clarity is an issue here the jaybird x.
Fours sound. More than good. Enough for anyone going to the gym or going for a run and the change in sound quality from the x 3s isn t that drastic in my opinion. These also look almost exactly like the x threes so if you have a pair of those there s no real reason to go rushing out to buy the x fours that said.
.
There is one reason. I could think of that would make these worth it and that as i ve already mentioned is the ipx7 waterproofing that was one of my biggest issues with the x threes. So kudos to j bird for listening to me. I ll be sending my invoice in the coming weeks at 129 bucks.
These are the same price that the x 3s were when they first launched. So at least you re not gonna be paying extra for the upgrade that said. We know that s still kind of expensive even if it s inexpensive for a jaybird product. So if you want a pair of cheap earbuds to use at the gym make sure to check out our best lists down in the description below.
But if you re ready to make the jump to the internet s favorite pair of workout earbuds. There s really no reason to get the x3 is over the x fours. Even if the x 3s do go on sale. I d still rather pay a little extra and get that ipx7 waterproof rating.
Plus the sweat proof coating. But that s just me i sweat a lot not a great idea. And that s it for our review of the jaybird x fours. Thanks for watching.
