Airways is calm and today. I m going to be doing another product review well in fact three product reviews. Because today. I m going to be checking out the oculus rift headphone replacements from jbl in the form of the jbl.
Oh are 100 s which are the in ear versions. The gbl o are 300s. Which are the over ear versions and then the official oculus rift in ear headphones. So i m going to be doing a quick unboxing just to show you what comes in the package and then i ll skip to the end and show you what my thoughts are on each one of these individual products and whether it s worth it or not to upgrade from the original stock over earphones that come fitted with the oculus rift.
So without further ado let s dive in ok guys so here we have the three sets of headphones so first up. We ve got here. The official oculus rift earphones. They come in this nice package here just with a little diagram on the back saying oculus earphones jbl.
Oh are 100 s and as you can see they re the in ear ones. Again some really nice packaging and as you can see on the detail. There it s got jbl written on them and they ve got some nice orange. Accents finally we ve got the over ear.
Ones which are the or. 300s from jbl again sort of nice design with some orange accents and again the same sort of sales pitch as it were jbl pure bass sound quality for a for an amplified experience perfectly sealing ear cup for an immersive sound experience light weight and comfort fit design. So what i m going to do is i m going to come back and just unbox each one of these individually. So you can get a better look of what you get inside each one of these packages.
Okay so i m going to start off with the official oculus ones and you get this nice little black box. Which lifts off and then you ve got the earphones inside. So if you take this little tray out then you ve got some accessories. You ve got some different size sort of rubbery pieces that you can put on there just like squid john like most sort of basic earphones and then you ve got this handy little tool.
This is really useful actually because this is going to help you take the original ones on and off your rift and i ll show you how to do that in a bit. You ve got some basic instructions and some warranty information. There so that is the the official oculus ones and if i just take it out of its package. And i just get a bit of an up close here so if i yep there s a bit closer so as you can see it s got this connector here.
I just focus that a bit better so you ve got a connector here..
Which indicates which side of the rift. It goes on and then you ve got these metal contacts either side of a sort of threaded screw. So that s essentially how it fixes to your rift and then you ve got the earbud itself. And then you ve got the little tip.
Which comes on and off so if i just take this off you can actually see the earphone itself. Hopefully you can see that that s a bit better okay so next up is the jbl o our 100 s so if we open up the box. We ve got this nice little sealed case a little zipper case. So if we unzip this inside.
You can see the jbl headphones themselves. They actually look really really nice so if we take this little foam section out. I can get one of these out. And show you what it looks like so.
Say the same with the oculus one you ve got these contacts with a threaded screw in the middle and then a little icon say which ones left and right you ve got the little ear. But itself with a little jbl exclamation mark with these orange accents and again these sort of tips that you can take on an office. I ll show you how to do that and again it looks quite similar to the oculus design. It s moving on finally.
We have the jbl. Oh our 300s and to me these were probably the most interesting out the three and these were the ones that i was probably most excited about i really like the original design of the rift earphones. So this is kind of what i was interested in so. Again.
We ve got some instruction information. And we ve got a nice big case this time same design as the earphones if we unzip this then you ll see inside. We ve got the headphones themselves they look really really nice in this packaging with the orange accents. So if i take one out.
And i show you a bit closer so as you can see it s kind of got this r to indicate that it s the right headphone and the left one has got an l. So you kind of go like that and as you can see it s kind of got this leatherette soft leatherette material over it which is very soft and squidgy and it feels quite nice on your ear. And then you ve got the jbl logo itself and again the contacts with threaded screw in the middle. Now what i m going to do is i m just going to show you this compared to the original ones as you can see the jbl won the cup is slightly bigger and the thing about the design is with this one over the original oculus.
One is this one is really nice padded material. It s very soft really really comfortable. But it does allow in some ambient noise. So you can hear about here stuff.
What s going on around you people moving about people talking whereas this one seems to seal your ear in a little bit so it cuts out some of the ambient noise..
That s going around in the background. When you re using your rift. And there s also quite soft and comfortable squishy like this but time will tell when i actually wear it for a considerable amount of time and give it a good test. And there we have it guys they re installed before i get into the review of these products.
I just want to go over the. Pricing so first up is the oculus in. Ear headphones these are 4999 in british pounds and 4999. In us dollars next up are the.
Jbl oh are 100 s these are 6999 in british pounds and 7995 in us dollars and finally the jbl oh are 300s on ear headphones and these are 119 pounds and 99 pence in bridge pounds and one hundred and forty nine ninety five us dollars. So now i ve shown you what comes inside each individual package. Now i m going to explain in a bit more detail about how i tested these products. So essentially.
I played a variety of games. I played robo recall drop dead killing floor incursion and manifest 99. And what i d do is i d put one of the products on play for about five to ten minutes then pause the game swap it over whilst in game to the next product. And then carry on as it with that product for another ten minutes and then swap toes the next one so i had a very quick sort of comparison between the different products because some of these products are very very alike.
And it s very very difficult to tell the difference straightaway and it took me hours and hours of swapping. These headphones over to kind of finally get a feel for each one of these products. So now. I just want to talk in a bit more detail about the in ear products first and then i ll move on to the on ear products.
A bit later on so. We ve got the the jbl and the oculus in ear headphones here and i would say with these products they really do isolate any background noise. And that s because these things are jammed into your ear. So you sort of block.
It blocks out some of the background noise. And you can kind of focus on the noise. And the music from the game itself i found both of them very comfortable to use. But i did find them a little bit less convenient because you ve got to remember these things are dangling like this and then once you ve got the wrist on then you ve got to pop them in and pop them back out again take the rift off whereas with the original ones a bit like this jbl one they just kind of like clamp onto your ear.
Like so so i did find them a little bit less convenient to use. But they did do a good job of isolating. Any background noise. I would say with the jbl product.
I fought the sound was a little bit tinny and although these are kind of marketed as bass sort of products basic products on the packaging..
I did find that that was lacking with this product and in fact found the bass was actually a lot better on the oculus in here headphones. So that was a bit of a surprise to me you know and another thing. I would say is i actually found the aesthetics of the oculus one a little bit nicer. It s a sleeker product.
And is a bit more sort of discreet in that it s all black whereas. The jbl is a little bit gaudy with the orange accents. And this is a little bit thicker. So it kind of sits.
Proud of the rift strap itself. It s worth noting that the oculus in ear headphones are the only ones that actually come with a tool to assist you in removing the headphones. I don t know why jbl left this out. But i think it was a bit of an oversight on their behalf.
So to summarise the in ear headphones. If you prefer the in ear design over the over ear design. Then i would go for the official oculus ones not only do they sound better in my opinion. But they re also 20 pounds of 20 cheaper than the jbl equivalents.
But please be aware guys that this earphone doesn t produce as cleaner or a nicer sound in my opinion than the original stock headphones that come with your oculus rift. I would only choose these if you prefer the in ear feeling and design and want to isolate a little bit of background noise. When you re enjoying your games. So now moving on to the on ear headphones and this was the product that i thought i was going to love and and really ions that have being quite disappointed because the design of this product is really really nice.
I ve always been a big fan of the oculus on air design. I love the way it sits on your ear. I ve always thought the sound quality was pretty great and they were really really comfortable so when i saw this product from jbl. I thought well if i can increase.
The sound clarity. A little bit better and have a deeper base. Then that is going to be the perfect product for me so i was really really excited about these. But unfortunately guys they re just simply not as good as the original oculus ones and i ll tell you why the design of this one is larger than the original oculus ones and in a way that is nice because it kind of creates a nice seal over your ear.
Which isolates a lot of background noise. Which is a great thing. But the problem is with the pleather kind of material that s used on this it does make your ears significantly warmer during playthroughs and bearing in mind this product is marketed as a bass increased product. I actually found the bass on the original stock oculus headphones was clearer crisper and punchier than these ones.
And particularly..
You know the difference between the two is minimal let me just get that clear you know for a hundred and fifty dollar product. You don t get that one hundred and fifty dollar better sound. Then this stock oculus ones and in my test of robo reco in the firing range. It was clear that the the gunshot noises using the stock oculus headphones was much much better than this product here and it s weird because after my review.
I actually looked up some amazon reviews and a lot of the feedback was exactly the same a lot of people found that the base from these products. Although they re marketed as a base increase in product was actually lacking okay guys so to conclude the video. I would say that i wouldn t recommend any of the products over the stock oculus over ear headphones. Unless you want to go for the in ear design.
Because you prefer that fit. And you want to isolate about a bit of background noise. Then i d go for the official oculus in ear headphones. But these jbl products.
It surprises. Me that these products even exist and now i kind of understand why they don t really market them in any way. Because quite frankly. They re just not up to scratch especially for the price that they re asking for and in both products.
The in ear and the over ear products. I found that the oculus ones performed much better so there we have it guys a little bit disappointing because i really want it to love these products. But unfortunately. That s just the way it goes sometimes.
But i m glad i was able to get these products and share this experience with you so you don t end up wasting. Some of your valuable cash so guys.
