Carol rodriguez when it comes to caring for patients. All nurses want to help patients patients recover as successfully as possible and we want to ensure the 5 patient rights patient right drug right dose right route. Right time technology plays a big part in reaching that goal.
Ed brenner. I have to admit im a pretty strong person. But even so having a medical procedure makes me nervous so its no surprise that i was more than a little anxious about my surgery.
Carol rodriguez. Once ed was checked into his hospital room. I immediately scanned his barcoded wristband to call up his patient record confirm.
He was ed and verify his procedure. Ed brenner. Seeing carol using that scanner as a safeguard during my stay made me feel better about being in the hospital.
But that wasnt the only safeguard she used carol rodriguez thats right the technology. I use with my patients. Enables me to provide safer higher quality care.
Eds doctor had ordered pre surgery medication for his procedure. I was able to scan the meds and compare that to eds ehr to confirm there would be no interactions with other meds. He might be taking ed brenner.
Right before the surgery. The doctor came in and detailed what my procedure would involve and he even brought up a video on my bedside tablet that definitely put me at ease. Carol rodriguez.
During surgery. Eds vitals were relayed to his ehr and displayed on a mobile cart monitor. They were rechecked and recorded post op.
While ed was coming out of sedation once ed was back from recovery and settled in his room. Again. I asked him to use the in room tablet to rate.
His pain scale. And answer a few simple questions to make sure. He was fully awake.
And that his cognitive functions were back to normal. Ed brenner. I was back to normal all right or as normal as i get.
But it made me feel safe that carol came in several times to check on my condition. And to know that my vitals were automatically uploaded to my patient record for her and my doctor to review. I definitely felt like every precaution was being taken to make sure i was comfortable and recovering well carol rodriguez prior to discharge all eds prescriptions were sent electronically to the pharmacy from his ehr again ensuring a layer of checks and balances for his post recovery.
Meds and as part of his discharge protocol. Ed. Was given a list of apps to download at home to help him remotely monitor his condition.
Ed brenner. The apps on my tablet. Reminded me when to take my meds scanned my vital signs and gave me the access to my online patient portal.
Where i could make follow up appointments view test. Results get reminders. And send my doc secure messages with any questions.
Hows that for peace of mind. And knowing everyone really is looking out for my best interests and the best part technology made it all possible carol rodriguez. Those same technologies.
