Following along are instructions in the video below:
“And welcome in this video. I m going to demonstrate how to create and configure configure a shared folder between a windows host operating system and lubin to linux guest operating system using oracle vm virtualbox manager. Shared folders make it very easy to share files between the guest operating system. And the host physical operating system great.
So. The first step is to create the shared folder on the physical host in my case windows 10. So i m going to create a new folder and i m going to call it why not share it folder. So i ve created inside my c colon backslash.
Temp folder. And it s called sure for great that s the first step the next step is to go to my virtual machine within the oracle vm. Virtualbox manager. Ensure that is powered off and then select settings and then go down towards the end on left hand side and select shared folders.
Now. We can actually select the plus symbol here to add a shirt folder so we can manually type it or to make sure there s no mistakes no typos. I m going to navigate to the shirt folder. I just created a few moments ago.
And select. It and the default folder name..
So. This physical. Folder. Location.
Is specified. In the folder. Path. And the folder.
Name. Shared folder. Is also going to be the name that will be used within a guest operating system. I m going to select auto.
Mount which means. The shirt folder will be automatically mounted upon boot up of the upper of the guest operating system. Ok. I want to select ok.
And once more. Ok..
The next step is to demonstrate the functionality of shirt folders so it s that end. I m going to select my ubuntu virtual machine and power it up so i might pause the video here now and resume once i ve fully logged in okay. My ubuntu guest operating system have successfully rebooted and i have logged on there is only one change and that is a shared folder icon has appeared in my desktop now it transpires that there is a problem with the default installation of 18 4. And the gas box additions such that shared folders will not work out of the box.
There is one step missing and that is we need to add our current user to the group virtualbox shared folder and to do that we open up a command line terminal. The easiest. Way is simply to select the desktop. And then press.
Ctrl alt t. To open up. A command line terminal. First verify.
Who you are even though our user name is indicated there as highlighted. But just to verify i want to type the command. Who am i and yes test user is my username so then i m going to issue. The command sudo.
Which means run the following command as root and then add user and user. I m going to add is the username which i m logged in as test user to the virtualbox shared folder group and press enter..
We re prompted to enter a password and this is the password for test user. So i m going to enter in that password. Now and adding user test user to group first box adding excellent. So successfully so once more unfortunately.
I m going to have to reboot my virtual adeline x. Operating system. And upon reboot. It should work.
So i will do that right now. And okay. It s powered down and now i m going to power up again and once it s i want to pause. The video once again and once it s powered up and i m logged on i ll demonstrate the functionality of share folders.
My linux operating system has now rebooted for the second time in total and i can see the shared folder icon again now let me just before i double click on it i m going to go to my windows explorer running on my windows 10 host operating system and as you can see my shared folder there s nothing there so i m going to minimize that got a double click undershirt folder icon on my linux guest operating system double click. And that should open up the equivalent of floor explorer inside ubuntu. I want to right click. And say new folder and i m going to call the folder test folder excellent now i m going to go back to my windows explorer.
On my host machine and as you can see test folder has just been created and now from so i was able to create a folder on my linux guest operating system and disappeared on my physical. Host operating system now on my physical..
Host operating system. Which is windows 10. I m going to change. The name of that shirt folder to my own name martin.
And now. I m going to go back to the linux ubuntu guest operating system and refresh by pressing f5 and lo and behold. It s martin so as you can see i ve got full read write access to the shirt folder. And i can copy and create files between the ubuntu linux.
Guest operating system. And the windows 10. Host operating system. Thank you very much i hope you enjoyed this video.
